PreSchool and Special Needs Director

Organizational Relationships
This staff person serves on the Grow Team led by our Grow/Go Pastor under the supervision of the Next Gen Ministry Director.

Purpose
The purpose of this full-time-exempt position is to create, coordinate, and direct a comprehensive program of activities and ministries centered on laying a loving spiritual foundation to aid parents to introduce their preschoolers to Christ and to guide families to grow in their faith. Preschool Ministry includes children from birth through Pre- K/Kindergarten also including Mother’s Day Out Ministry. In addition to Preschool Ministry this position will also partner with the entire Next Gen Ministry Team to create, coordinate, and direct ministry for our children/students with special needs.

Responsibilities
The person in this position must be highly relational. This person must have a passion for working with children, enjoy interacting with their parents, have a servant’s heart for members of the congregation, and a passion for children and families with special needs. Discretion must be used at all times when dealing with the business of the Church office and the assigned ministries. The ability to maintain strict confidentiality is required. Attendance is required at all Sunday and Wednesday services and special events scheduled for this ministry unless prior approval is obtained.

Duties Relating to Preschool and Special Needs Ministries
  • Direct the planning, coordination, organization, and activities relating to the preschool ministry and children/students with special needs. Facilitate and promote programs and events including but not limited to:
    • Sunday morning and evening classes and childcare
    • Wednesday evening classes and childcare
    • Summer programs
    • SpecialEvents
  • Be a visionary and encourager. Identify the needs and interests of preschool children and children/students with special needs. Develop and plan programs in accordance with those needs.
  • Build a ministry team. Equip, organize, evaluate, and inspire volunteers. Lead in enlisting and training volunteers. Possess the ability to use appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Plan and coordinate activities with all organizations of the church to complement and not conflict with other ministries and programs. Ensure childcare is provided for special events for other ministries when requested.
  • Regularly conduct meetings with staff/workers to plan and pray for this ministry. Periodically observe classrooms, children-teacher interactions, and overall effectiveness of the ministry.
  • Ensure a high degree of cleanliness is maintained in the preschool area. Develop and implement all safety and security measures and ensure they are being followed by teachers, leaders, and parents.
  • Select all materials, curriculums, and resources to effectively communicate God’s eternal truths. Remain up to date on all new resources for these ministry areas by attending and participating in workshops or conferences as necessary.
  • Provide care for children and their families including hospital visits and follow-up. Lead in outreach. Be responsible for contacting those families whose children visit throughout the week.
  • Prepare annual budget for the Preschool Ministry. Comply with the budget as approved. Purchase and oversee the use and maintenance of all equipment used by the Preschool Ministry.
  • Supervise/oversee all staff personnel employed by the Mother’s Day Out and paid workers in the nursery/preschool during extended sessions or special events.
  • Assist the Nominating Committee in enlisting workers for the Preschool Ministry and Special Needs Ministry.
  • Coordinate and partner with each Next Gen Ministry leader to ensure that children and students with special needs have a plan to foster Christ centered discipleship and integration with those ministries when possible.
General Ministry Duties
  • Participate in staff meetings and conferences/retreats as requested.
  • Meet requests for action or information in a timely and Christ-like manner, even when they are outside of the direct job description.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of office hours.
  • Work in coordination with the overall goals and objective of the church by cooperating and following the leadership of the Senior Pastor.
  • Develop relationship with leadership from other churches that have advanced Preschool Ministries.
Education Requirements
  • College degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience building a multi-faceted Preschool Ministry preferred.
  • Experience with children and families with special needs preferred.
Other
  • Church membership required.
  • Subject to drug testing.
  • Subject to background check.
  • Cannot have been convicted of a criminal offence, including a felony or misdemeanor.
  • Must have competency with basic computer software and the ability to learn new programs.

Spiritual maturity is a necessary attribute in performing the duties and responsibilities of this position. A mutually agreeable relationship with Senior Staff, co-workers, and church members is required.

Dependability and Organization: The person in this position must possess a high level of organizational skills to provide timely information and schedules to Next Gen Director and when necessary to the Grow/Go Pastor and Senior Pastor.

Christian Representation: The person in this position must be able to present him/herself in a professional manner in speech, action, and dress while representing First Baptist Church either in person or otherwise, whether on-campus or off.
