serving together for the glory of god

As FBC Women rooted in Christ, we are specifically instructed by Jesus to serve others.  In Matthew 25:34-40, Jesus says to those on His right hand, “Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.”  Then the righteous asked Him, “Lord, when did we do those things?”  And He answered, “Truly I say to you, to the extent you did it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for Me.” Just as Jesus led by serving and loved by serving, we are also to serve in love.  But what does that look like?  There are many ways to serve at FBC, but during November we will be highlighting a few:
Tuesday, November 1, 5:30-7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall
C.A.R.E. is both an outreach and inreach ministry of our church that seeks to support our church family and our community. Volunteers can care for others by praying for others, writing prayer-grams and encouraging notes, or by calling or visiting. If you have questions, please contact Kristie in the church office.
Prayer Room
November 6-12
FBC's Prayer Ministry is the cornerstone for all other ministries and programs in our church. How exciting to know that Our Father in Heaven longs to hear our voice and eagerly waits for us to commune with Him!  And what an honor and privilege to come before Him on behalf of our brothers and sisters who are hurting!  This intercessory ministry gives our members an organized way to pray for church family, staff, and people not only in Sevier County but around the world.  Whether praying directly with our Intercessors, receiving a prayer-gram through the mail or getting an encouraging email, lives are touched by this ministry. If you have questions or a prayer request, please call Dodie at (865) 429-PRAY.

Christmas Store Registration
Monday, November 7
Training will be provided from 8:00-9:00 AM or 5:00-6:00 PM.
Sign-ups will be at 9:00-11:00 AM or 6:00-8:00 PM in the Good News Building.
This ministry grew out of a desire to assist families in need during the Christmas season.  Food and hygiene are provided for family members.  Then families are allowed to shop for two large gifts and two small gifts for each child 12 and under.  Gifts are wrapped and given to the parents ready to be presented to their child on Christmas Day. Hundreds of families are helped each year.  By partnering with other agencies in town, we are able to assist those who are truly in need and also ensure their teenagers are remembered as well. And, being the most important part, the Gospel is presented to each person who attends. If you are unable to serve, bins will be available beginning November 14 for donation of new toys.  If you have questions, please contact Kristie in the church office.

Hot Meals for Hungry Hearts
Monday, November 7 & 14th (Thanksgiving meal) 3:45-5:15 PM
Based on a suggestion by FBC member Karen Koerten and her heart-felt desire to teach our youth how to be servant-minded, Hot Meals for Hungry Hearts began in March 2012. Through the years, this successful ministry has grown to include volunteers of all ages. Neighbors who come to eat include the homeless, nearly homeless, temporarily unemployed, disabled and others simply needing a meal and a personal connection. With volunteers being such a vital part of this ministry, many opportunities are available for members to serve by helping prepare meals, serving food, making our guests feel welcome and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. Volunteers for visiting prospects from the meals and serving as mentors to those who attend are also needed. If you cannot serve, food donations are also welcome.

Primera Iglesia Bautista en Sevierville

Sunday, November 6, 13 & 20 from 7-8:30 pm

This amazing ministry just commemorated 20 years of sharing the Gospel with our Hispanic neighbors.  Please join us during their worship service as we celebrate with them and lift praises to the Lord for all the lives that have been rescued through this ministry. You do not have to speak Spanish to help in our Hispanic ministries.

English as a Second Language Classes
Wednesday, November 2, 9 & 16 from 5:45-7:30 PM.

FBC offers ESL classes to immigrants from a variety of Hispanic speaking countries.  Language barriers are so hard to overcome.  And even though English is the language that brings the greater part of the world together, it is a difficult language to learn without help.  Students of all ages gets real practice watching and hearing others speak English in a relaxed environment.  The opportunity to improve their fluency is invaluable to them and their families and provides us with an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the nations. You do not have to speak Spanish to help in our Hispanic ministries.

We, as FBC Women, long to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Life can be hard. We need each other now more than ever. That’s why we believe FBC Women is a key element not only for personal growth but also for service and fellowship. Whether you are young or more mature, married or single, with children or without, new in the faith or have been walking with the Lord for many years, we invite you to become a part of FBC Women. We would love to study God’s Word with you or see you at our next event. Please email us at women@fbcsev.org if you are interested in becoming involved or would like to serve in this ministry.
