Passion Week Countdown

Apr 13, 2025    Pastor Dan Spencer

The location was Jerusalem. The year was 33 AD, the Sunday before Passover. We call it Palm Sunday. It was the beginning of the most important week of the most important person who has ever lived: Jesus Christ.

There was excitement in the air in Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Jewish pilgrims had gathered from around the world for the upcoming Passover feast. The word had spread that Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead in the town of Bethany, just a couple of miles from Jerusalem.

Many people had gone out to Bethany to see Jesus and Lazarus. The result was that they believed in Jesus, and they returned to Jerusalem with the testimony that they had seen Lazarus alive – after he had been dead for three days. They had seen Jesus work that amazing miracle to bring him back to life.

The crowds were fed up with the cruel domination of Roman rule, and they were anxious for the Messiah to come and make everything right. They looked at the massive crowds that followed Jesus, the authority with which He taught, and the miracles He did, and they thought, “Jesus is the One!” It was an incredible scene!
