The Demonized Boy

Sometimes the toughest test of your faith comes right after your greatest encounter with God. In Chapter 9 of the Gospel of Mark, Peter, James, and John have just seen Jesus transfigured on the mountaintop. For a few minutes, Jesus allowed them to see the glory of His deity shining through His human flesh. He wanted to give them clarity on His identity and His mission.

His face was shining, His clothes were lit up with bright white light, and Moses & Elijah appeared. It was the greatest worship they had ever experienced – but they could not stay up on the mountain. They had to go back down into the valley. The next verse opens with chaos. They come down into the valley to an argument, a desperate father, an angry demon, and powerless disciples.

Have you ever had that happen? Sunday worship was great but by Monday, you were overwhelmed with problems again. You finally felt like you were growing in your faith, then you were met with something you couldn’t handle. You had a spiritual breakthrough, then your family, your health, your job, or your emotions got hit hard.
