Transfiguration

Sep 14, 2025    Pastor Dan Spencer

This week has been filled with tragic evidence that we live in a world that has been horribly broken by sin. A young lady named Iryna Zarutska was senselessly murdered in Charlotte and Charlie Kirk was tragically assassinated in Utah. The evil, the violence, the blood, the death have an effect on our souls.

Charlie’s death hits different for Christians because of what he stood for. Charlie was a warrior for truth and a powerful example of how to be an unashamed witness for Christ. What a loss! And what a defining moment for young adults in America who want to live for Jesus and build their lives on the truth of the Bible!

Everything we have seen in the past week breaks our hearts. It causes us to grieve and yearn for the time when Jesus will return and set everything right. There is no better passage than the one God led Pastor Dan to choose for today, September 14, 2025, way back in December of 2024.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the passage we will study in this session is one of the top 5 most significant events in Jesus’ life – right up there with His baptism, His crucifixion, His resurrection, and His ascension. This passage tells about a mountain-top experience where Peter, James, and John saw Jesus revealed in all His glory. The Bible uses the word transfigured to describe what they saw, so we call it the “Transfiguration.”

This is more than a Bible story. This is a picture of Jesus that you and I need desperately in the midst of all that is happening in our world today. Because life is full of evil, disappointments, suffering, and questions. And this passage reminds us that there is more than what we see right now. Please find Mark 9:1-13.
