Where Your Heart Is
To live the way Jesus calls us to live means going the opposite way from the rest of the world.
As we look at Matthew 6:19-24, Jesus tells us that if our “treasure” is made up of earthly things – those things are not going to last. Worst of all, Jesus said that where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also. So, if everything we cherish and value the most is tied up in earthly treasures, it will all be lost someday, and then what will we have?
Jesus was not saying that we shouldn’t earn money to provide for our needs or be a good steward of our money for the future. He was saying that money / material things / earth-bound things can’t be what our lives are about.
We can’t base our security and significance on what we can earn or what we can buy. We can’t determine our value or self-worth on how much stuff we can accumulate. Jesus People live for a higher purpose than that!
