The Life God Blesses
We have looked at how the Lord brought the people to Mount Sinai and began to give them His Law, starting with the Ten Commandments. Though they were free from Egypt, God had a lot to teach them. At this point, the people were in a “situationship” with the Lord, but they didn’t have a relationship with the Lord. So, He initiated a special kind of relationship with His people called a covenant.
The Lord promised His blessing, protection, guidance, presence – all because of His great love. But the condition was that the people were to be loyal to Him – to keep His commandments, to worship and serve Him exclusively. If they were not loyal, there would be consequences. There are 42 of them, the details of what the Lord expects of His people as He gives them His Law, His framework for a new and different culture of righteousness unlike any other in the world. If you have heard the term “Judeo-Christian values”, this is it.
